The Science of 72-Hour Hydration

The Science of 72-Hour Hydration

Most moisturisers hydrate the surface and call it a day. The skin, however, is a living architecture of layers — and true hydration requires reaching every one of them. Here is how Velour's triple-weight hyaluronic complex changes the equation.
Why molecular weight matters

Hyaluronic acid is one of the most studied molecules in skincare, but few formulations use it well. The molecule's size — measured in daltons — determines how deeply it can travel into the skin. A high-molecular-weight chain forms a smoothing film at the surface. A low-molecular-weight fragment slips into the dermis, where collagen and elastin live.

Most products use one weight. Velour uses three: a 1.8 million dalton macromolecule for the stratum corneum, a 250 kilodalton mid-weight for the epidermis, and a 50 kilodalton fragment that reaches the basal layer where new cells are forming.

"Hydration is not a moment. It is a state — one we believe should last the full arc of your week."
What 72 hours actually means

In our independent corneometry trial, 32 participants applied a single dose of The Gold Standard and measured skin hydration every 12 hours for three days. At the 72-hour mark, hydration was still 41% above baseline — even after cleansing with a gentle gel each morning.

This is not a marketing claim. It is the consequence of layered delivery: as the surface evaporates, the deeper reservoirs continue to release moisture upward, like a slow tide.

The ritual that amplifies the result

Whatever remains on your hands belongs on the inside of your wrists and the back of your neck — areas where the skin is thin and the scent will bloom slowly throughout the morning.

We spend a fortune on what we put on our skin and almost no time on how we put it on. Yet pressure, temperature and tempo can change a formula's performance by as much as 30%. The Velour method is our answer.

Retinol has been the gold standard of anti-ageing for forty years. It is also the reason millions of people give up on their skincare routine within a month. Bakuchiol — extracted from the seeds of the Psoralea corylifolia plant — offers a different path.
